NEW DELHI, APRIL 5. Delhi has reported 50 cholera cases in the past four months alone, the second highest number of cases in the past two years. The rising numbers have been a cause for worry for many including doctors, civil authorities and the water supplying agencies. This year, however, the Capital has reported six cases in the month of April alone. The maximum number of cases have been reported from Central zone which has recorded 26 cases from January to April, besides Civil Lines (10), Shahadara North (2) and South Zone (7). The figures, officials claim, are on the higher side. Speaking about the problem, the Deputy Medical Officer Health, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Sat Pal, said: "Cholera cases are reported all the year round in the Capital with the number of cases peaking in the summer months and with the current water problem that the Capital is facing, the condition has become even more acute. Also, with the general public using water from unsafe channels the problem seems to be increasing. Contamination of water is serious problem and the shortage is only adding to the woes."
