`Accused' may have to produce bonds

BANGALORE, APRIL 5. The Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer for the Bangalore North Lok Sabha and its eight Assembly segments, G.S. Narayana Swamy, today said that all those persons, who allegedly indulged in violence in the last elections would be asked to submit bonds stating that they would desist from indulging in illegal activities during elections this time.

He told presspersons here that there were 328 hyper sensitive and 610 sensitive booths in the Shantinagar, Shivajinagar, Bharatinagar, Jayamahal, Yelahanka, Varthur, Devanahalli and Hoskote Assembly constituencies falling under the Bangalore North Lok Sabha Constituency.

In Hoskote alone, which witnessed serious law and order problem during the earlier elections, there were 128 and 82 hyper sensitive and sensitive booths respectively.

He had directed the officials to review the position and update

the number of such

booths.

The Superintendent of Police, Prashant Kumar Thakur, said that one company of the Central Reserve Police Force would be deployed in the constituency to ensure smooth polling and 3,173 police personnel would be posted at the polling booths.

Mr. Narayana Swamy said that he had ordered vigil on the proceesions and holding of public meetings at public places and using plastic posters and banners by the candidates.

He said that a meeting of candidates had been convened for Tuesday to guide them on observing the model election code of conduct.

There was an increase of 19,945 voters.

Mr. Narayana Swamy said that he had not received any enquiry by the Chief Electoral Officer on whether the touch screens installed in the offices of the Tahsildars could be used in election.
