BIJAPUR, APRIL 6. Fifty-one candidates remained in the fray in the seven Assembly constituencies in Bagalkot district after the last day for withdrawal of nominations ended on Monday. The Bharatiya Janata Party, which has fielded the president of Basaveshwar Vidyavardhak Sangh, Veeranna Charanthimath, in Bagalkot city could not make the former MLA, P.H. Pujar, withdraw from contest. Mr. Pujar won the 1998 byelection and the 1999 election in the constituency on the party ticket. He quit the party with his supporters after being denied the ticket, and has started the campaign. Ajaykumar Sarnaik (Congress), Abdul Razak Balekai (Janata Dal-Secular), Sanganagouda Annadanagouda Tondihal (Janata Party), Chandrakanth Sidramappa Guled (Bahujan Samaj Party-BSP), Vijay Anthargonda (Kannada Nadu), and Lakshman Muchkandi and M.B. Pujari, independents, are the other candidates in the constituency. The candidates in other constituencies are: (Bilagi) J.T.
