CHITRADURGA, APRIL 6. M.A. Sadiq, Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer of the Chitradurga Lok Sabha Constituency, has said that efforts are on to acquaint the voters with the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs). Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Sadiq said public demonstrations on the use EVMs would begin on Saturday and the second phase of training for polling personnel would be conducted from April 10 to 14. He said of the 1,422 polling stations in the district, 347 had been identified as sensitive and 362 as hypersensitive. Of the 7,638 polling personnel, 1,273 would be presiding officers and the rest polling officers. About 2,900 personnel would be posted to Davangere, from where Chitradurga would get the same number of staff. He said 2,483 police personnel would be deployed and 79 mobile police squads formed to provide security in the entire constituency. "We will be deploying 61 revenue mobile squads also. Senior officers will head such squads. The officers will provided with magisterial powers of that particular sector,'' he said. As many as 211 buses and 212 jeeps would be mobilised for the polls. M.S. Padhi, an election observer, said there was a greater need to educate people about the usage of EVMs. S.H. Vijay Kumar, Headquarters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner, was present.
