CUDDAPAH, APRIL 6. The former Congress MLA, Gadikota Dwarakanatha Reddy (42), on Tuesday announced his decision to retire from politics, as he was pained at the Congress not re-nominating him for Lakkireddipalle Assembly constituency. Meanwhile, his followers burnt a heap of Congress' flags, party banners and posters in front of the Gandhi statue at One Town circle here. Mr. Reddy, who was elected Congress MLA of Lakkireddipalle in 1994, alleged at a press conference that becoming branded as a `YSR followers' turned out to be his handicap and he did not get his due either in the TDP or in Congress on that count. He asserted that he built the Congress in Lakkireddipalle segment by enthusiastically organising party programmes and agitations but was meted out a raw deal. Referring to the Congress fielding a party leader, Gadikota Mohan Reddy, as Congress candidate, Mr. Reddy said he would not be anguished if the former CLP Leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, had jointly discussed the pros and cons with him and Mr. Mohan Reddy, who lost in the 1989 and 1999 elections, before finalising the candidature. He alleged violation of the Panchmarhi resolution which barred fielding of candidates who lost elections twice.
