RAJAHMUNDRY, APRIL 6. The Congress list of candidates for the 21 Assembly segments and two Lok Sabha seats has no surprises and majority of the candidates in the list are those who had contested in 1999 but had lost to the TDP candidates by varying degrees of majority. Tetali Rama Reddy (Anaparthy), Allur Krishnam Raju (Razole), Bullabbayi Reddy (Sampara), Varupula Subba Rao (Prattipadu), Pinipe Viswarup (Mummidivaram) come under this category. Incidentally, Dommeti Venkateswarulu (Tallarevu from where Minister for cooperation, Chikkala Ramachanra Rao (TDP) is seeking re-election for the sixth time in a row), Mutta Gopalkrishna (Kakinada), V.Venkata Krishnam Raju alias Ashok Babu (Tuni, from where the Finance Minister, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu (TDP), is seeking re-election for the sixth time) were candidates, who, having been denied party ticket in 1999, were in the field as independents and lost. It may be mentioned here that candidates like Dommeti Venkateswara Rao, Ashok Babu and Mutta Gopalkrishna stood in the second position and relegated the party candidates to the third position. New faces in the list included Chitturi Ravindra (Burugupudi), Thadi Tata Rao (Amalapuram), Pampana Arjuna Rao (Ramachandrapuram), Chirla Jaggi Reddy (Kottapeta), Routhu Surya Prakasha Rao (Rajahmundry) and P.Rajeswari Devi, who is the lone woman candidate in the Congress list as against five women candidates put up by the main opposition, the TDP.
