Disqualify Naidu: Congress

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, APRIL 6. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has complained to the Chief Election Commissioner about "scurrilous advertisements" carried against the party by the Telugu Desam on Telugu TV channels, saying it amounted to an electoral offence attracting the provisions of the Representation of People's Act.

Addressing a press conference, V. T. M. Prasad, chairman of the APCC Legal Cell, and other Congress leaders, K. Yadav Reddy, T. Seshnarayan and Padmaraju, said as these advertisements had "demonstrable, self- evident, prima facie approval'' of the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, his nomination from the Kuppam constituency should be rejected and disqualified.

They appealed to the Commission to direct immediate withdrawal of "these advertisements that are in totally bad taste, baseless and derogatory to the Congress.'' They were referring to the advertisement, captioned "hot news" telecast on all Telugu channels. The two characters in the advertisement, played by Nutan Prasad and Chitti Babu, discuss the promises made by the Congress and brand them lies.
