HYDERABAD, APRIL 6. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today encountered a severe backlash in at least six Assembly constituencies where it finalised its candidates at the eleventh hour. Although it did not officially release its tenth and final list of candidates, aspirants in these constituencies displayed their anger either by resigning from the party or resorting to violence on learning about the high command's decision. In Adoni, the followers of K. Meenakshi Naidu, who held the seat, went on a rampage and resorted to arson to protest against the high command's decision to allot the ticket to a newcomer, Krishnaveni. Similar incidents were reported to have taken place in Vayalpad in Chittoor district. Raavi Venkateswara Rao, member of the dissolved Assembly from Gudivada, resigned from the TDP and announced his decision to contest as an Independent as the ticket had been given to the film-maker, Kodali Nani. The Chairman of the A. P. Civil Supplies Corporation, Ch. Venkatakrishna Reddy, made a similar resolve and said he would file his nomination as an Independent from Guntur - II. The last minute decision of the TDP leadership to replace N. Papa Rao with Kadiri Babu Rao resulted in the former's supporters damaging the local party office. There was also a hostile response from followers of E. Haribabu against the allotment of the party ticket for Ongole to S. Raghava Rao.
