DPA has nothing to project as achievement: BJP

By Our Staff Reporter

MAYILADUTURAI, APRIL 6. The Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) in Tamil Nadu seems to have forgotten that the coming elections are for the Lok Sabha and not for the Assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary, L. Ganesan, said.

Talking to reporters at Thirukadaiyur near here today, Mr. Ganesan said the way in which the DPA constituents were, during their electioneering, criticising the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, and highlighting her Government's failures had created an impression that they were fighting an Assembly election. "This had only exposed the dearth of national-level issues to be highlighted or discussed on the election platform," he said.

Also, the DPA constituents did not have anything to project as achievements whereas the BJP was explaining its achievements and placing a question before voters whether they would like to have an Indian-born citizen or a foreigner as Prime Minister.

Mr. Ganesan thanked the former Union Minister and Congress Jananayaka Peravai leader, P. Chidambaram, for admitting that 20 per cent of India was shinning.

"At the same time we want Mr. Chidambaram to ponder why even that 20 per cent was not able to shine when the country was ruled by others prior to formation of a coalition government at the Centre in 1999," he said.
