Anantapur
By Our Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR, APRIL 6. Completion of announcement of candidates for the Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies by the major political parties has spurred political activity in the district. As April 7 is the last date for filing nominations the focus has shifted to the offices of the returning officers of the respective constituencies for the time being. Though some of the candidates of Telugu Desam Party and its ally the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress its allies, the Communist Party of India(CPI) and the Communist Party of India(Marxist) have already filed their papers, most of them are planning to file the nominations with fanfare on the last day. Rebel candidates of the TDP and Congress are also likely to file their papers tomorrow. Dissidence in TDP and Congress has come out in the open as the tickets for all seats have been announced. The two parties are facing rebellion in a majority of the constituencies. The problem of dissidence is high in Anantapur, Singanamala, Gooty, Kadiri and Gorantla for the Congress and in Anantapur, Uravakonda, Tadipatri, Rayadurg and Gorantla for the TDP. T. Atmarami Reddy and V. Prabhakara Chowdary have already filed their papers as the rebels of Congress and TDP, respectively, after denial of tickets. In Gooty, A. Jagadish has filed his papers after denial of ticket by Congress and P. Nagi Reddy filed his papers as rebel candidate for TDP in Tadipatri. Dissidents in most of the constitu- encies are likely to take a decision on their moves to night as Wednesday is the last date for filing nomination papers. Two followers of Penukonda strongman, Paritala Ravindra, P. Shankarappa (Gorantla) and K. Venkata Prasad (Kadiri) are likely to file their papers against the official nominees tomorrow. Kadiri has been allotted to the BJP under the seat sharing agreement. The finalisation of candidates for the district was a difficult task for the TDP and Congress. While the Congress fielded six new candidates this time, the TDP has mostly preferred tested hands including three new candidates.
