TDP-BJP combine on shaky ground in Kadiri

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR, APRIL 6. The TDP-BJP alliance in the district appears to be on the rocks as a TDP candidate is all set to file his nomination papers from Kadiri on Wednesday. Kadiri seat was allotted to the BJP as part of the seat-sharing accord.

The BJP too is learnt to have decided to field its candidates in Anantapur, Singanamala, Dharmavaram and Hindupur constituencies. The local leadership of BJP in Hindupur is sore over non-allocation of the seat for the party. The BJP's national council member, B. S. Vidayasagar, is likely to file his papers on Wednesday.

According to the sources in the BJP, the leaders and cadre of the TDP in Kadiri are not campaigning for the alliance candidate. K. Venkata Prasad, a close associate of the Penukonda strongman, Paritala Ravindra, was one of the main aspirants for the TDP ticket from Kadiri. The mentor of Mr. Prasad is learnt to have tried to swap Kadiri for any other constituency in the district, but to no avail. Hence, Mr. Prasad has decided to enter the fray or to field his wife from Kadiri as independent.

The BJP candidate from Kadiri, M. S. Parthasarathi, is learnt to have taken the matter to the party president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, who in turn has assured that he would take up the matter with the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu. Mr. Parthasarathi also complained about the non-cooperation of TDP in the constituency.

If the TDP non-cooperation continues in Kadiri, the BJP's district leadership is stated to have been decided to work against the party and field its unofficial candidates from Anantapur, Singanamala, Dharmavaram and Hindupur constituencies. Mr. Paritala Ravindra will meet both Mr. Parthasarathi and Mr. Prasad tonight to tide over the stalemate, sources said.
