MOSCOW, APRIL 6. The President of Russia's republic of Ingushetia, Murat Zyazikov, narrowly escaped a suicide car bomb attack blamed on Chechen rebels. Mr. Zyazikov was travelling by car from the former regional capital of Nazran to the new capital Magas on Tuesday morning when a Russian-made Lada car tried to overtake Mr. Zyazikov's limousine. After a convoy jeep forced Lada to the side of the road it exploded, scattering the other cars in the carcade and shattering nearby houses. The armoured Mercedes in which Mr. Zyazikov was riding was heavily damaged but saved his life. He suffered slight wounds and burns, while five of his bodyguards were hospitalised with various injuries.
