Akbaruddin Owaisi arrested, released

The Moghalpura police on Tuesday arrested Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) former legislator, Akbaruddin Owaisi, on the charge of making provocative speech at a public meeting in Old City a week ago. However, he was immediately released on bail.

`Bribe' amount seized

Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday seized an amount of Rs. 1,980 from Mohd. Sadat Ali allegedly collected as bribe on behalf of a Motor Vehicle Inspector of Hyderabad Road Transport Authority (RTA) office, A. Surendra, for registration of vehicles.

During a surprise check, Sadat, who was running a private pollution check centre, was found accepting bribes on behalf of the MVI from people intending to register their new vehicles, according to a press release.

Accused in `desecration' incident arrested

The Saidabad police on Tuesday arrested a resident of Poosalabasthi, K. Saibaba (20), who was allegedly responsible for desecrating an idol of Pochamma temple and burning the bamboo screen of Mahaboob Osman Chilla at Poosalabasthi on March 30 night.

Saiababa confessed to the police that he went to the temple in an intoxicated condition and damaged the idol, as he had no faith in the god, according to a press release.

Two killed in road mishap

Two persons were killed when an APSRTC Kurnool depot bus knocked the motorcycle they were riding near City College under Charminar police station area after Monday midnight. The victims were identified as Sudhakar Reddy and Ramesh, both aged about 25 years. They were residents of Budvel in Rajendranagar. While Sudhakar died on the spot, Ramesh succumbed to his injuries at the Osmania General Hospital.

Cheating case registered

The Saidabad police on Monday registered a cheating case against an office-bearer of A.P. Amateur Wrestling Association, Narsinga Rao, following a complaint lodged by a wrestler, Mukesh Khatri, that the association cheated him of reward money announced by the Andhra Pradesh Government.

According to the complainant, the cheque issued by the Association towards the reward amount bounced when he presented it in the bank.

One held, pirated VCDs seized

The Hyderabad police Task Force (South) officials on Monday arrested a partner of New Music World video shop, Noor Mohammed (20), at his house in Moghalpura and seized 37 porno VCDs and 62 pirated VCDs of latest Hindi and Telugu films from his possession.

Investigation revealed that the accused used to procure VCDs from one Alwal of Dilsukhnagar, according to a press release. In another case, a toddy compound operator, D. Naresh Goud (35) of Kandikalgate, was arrested and 60 kg of Chloral Hydrate was seized from him.
