NEW DELHI, APRIL 6. Residents of the Capital continued to experience unscheduled power cuts and shortage of drinking water supply on Tuesday. While discom officials said load-shedding, if any, was due mainly to maintenance and repair work in the area distribution system, Delhi Transco claimed that the Capital continued to have surplus power. The maximum load-shedding officially was 40 MW at 2 p.m. On the water front, though the Delhi Jal Board claimed that the distribution of treated water was as per their capacity, they did concede that certain areas, mainly towards the tail end of the supply lines like Vasant Kunj in South Delhi, were facing water shortage. However, complaints of power and water crisis were received from Laxmi Nagar, Patparganj, Mayur Vihar, Uttam Nagar, Narela, Kalkaji, Okhla, Lajpat Nagar, Mehrauli and some parts of Delhi University. Meanwhile, a large number of employees held a demonstration at the North Delhi Power Limited's headquarters at Kingsway Camp protesting against non-payment of their salary for last month. The protest continued for a couple of hours. The discom supplies electricity to North and North-West Delhi. Conceding that there was some delay in disbursement of salary, the NDPL clarified that this was mainly because of the employees had not submitted their Permanent Account Number (PAN) to be incorporated in the Income Tax Return to be filed by the company. The NDPL said the issue was blow out of proportion by a handful of employees who do not have any work. "Strict action would be taken against such employees," the discom officials said. Meanwhile, the Delhi Transco in a statement announced load-shedding from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Kalkaji, Nehru Place, Okhla, Tughlakabad and Alaknanda. The NDPL, in another statement, announced rotational power cuts in some areas of Pitampura, Shakti Nagar, Moti Nagar, Civil Lines and Keshav Puram on Wednesday due to urgent maintenance and repair work.
