Power Tiller Manufacturers' concern

BANGALORE: The Power Tiller Manufacturers Association of India has expressed its concern over the order of the Central Excise Department levying a duty of 16 per cent on power tillers, treating them on a par with tractors. The association has stated that power tillers were largely used by small and marginal farmers for mechanisation. All along the central and state governments have been encouraging the power tiller usage by providing subsidies and applying `nil' rate of Central excise duty ever since its introduction in the Sixties, the association has stated in a release.
