MAHABUBNAGAR, APRIL 7. The Congress party rebel candidate from Mahabubnagar Assembly segment, Puli Veeranna, announced here on Wednesday that his election vehicles would be decorated with Indira and Sonia Gandhi's posters. The pamphlets would be in three colours resembling Congress party flag colours. Speaking to reporters along with Bekkari Srinivas Reddy of Samajwadi party, who withdrew from the contest in support of him, Mr. Puli Veeranna said he was in the race as an undeserving candidate was fielded by the Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) dropping, a Muslim candidate, who was asked to file nomination initially. "Had the Muslim minority candidate or Mr. Bekkari Srinivas Reddy been fielded by the TRS, I would not have been in the fray," he said. Mr. Veeranna claimed that he was the real protagonist of Telangana State, as in 1969 Telangana movement, he was jailed for 11 months along with late Mallikarjun on the charge that they had conspired to topple the State Government. "I, along with Mallikarjun and other Congress leaders, had played key role in 2000 again to launch a movement for Telangana State," he said. He said he would strive for formation of a separate State if he was elected to the Assembly. Replying to a question, Mr. Veeranna said that for the Lok Sabha seat, he would appeal to people vote for the Congress candidate, D. Vittal Rao. He appealed to the voters to vote for the Congress party so that it could form Government at the Centre as-well-as in the State to end the misrule of the NDA and the TDP Governments.
