BANGALORE, APRIL 8. Sneha Shampur of Bangalore was part of the Indian junior women's team that won a bronze at the 13th Asian triathlon championship at Subic Bay, Philippines, recently. Sneha, a second semester student of Kammavari Sangha Institute of Technology (KSIT), finished 10th in a time of 1hr 09:58 seconds while Kavya and Kanthamani came sixth and 17th respectively. Sneha was congratulated by the Commissioner, Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), K.C. Rama Murthy (IPS), in his chambers. Financial assistance is likely to be given to Sneha. The Commissioner, in a chat, talked about setting up a fund-base to the tune of Rs. one crore through corporates and other sources under the care of Sports Authority of Karnataka (SAK) which will be dispersed to the needy and talented sportspersons who perform well at the National and international levels. On her impressive showing, Sneha felt that in both swimming and running she did commendably well but it was cycling (20 kms) in which she lost out on time. "There were two circuitous rounds which involved hill-climbing which we have never encountered before," Sneha said. Our Sports Reporter
