Anbalagan denies code violation charge

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, APRIL 8. The Secretary of the Pondicherry State unit of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and MLA, A. Anbalagan, today denied the charge of the Assistant Returning Officer, G. Ragesh Chandra, that the party had violated the model code of conduct and guidelines of the Election Commission by displaying cut-outs, banners and party flags during the visit of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, on Wednesday. The Chief Minister addressed a meeting seeking votes for the Bharatiya Janata Party nominee for the Pondicherry Lok Sabha seat, Lalitha Kumaramangalam.

Addressing mediapersons here, Mr. Anbalagan said he had obtained prior permission from Public Works Department Executive Engineer on April 2 for display of flags and poll-related materials.

There was no communication to him from the PWD stating that the department had withdrawn the permission to erect flag-poles and other structures on East Coast Road and other segments, he said.
