Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, APRIL 8. The sky will be partly cloudy on Friday with the possibility of a shower or thundershower in some areas during evening or night. The maximum temperature will be around 38 degrees Celsius.

On Thursday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 37.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.7 while Meenambakkam recorded 38 and 26.2 degrees Celsius. Humidity was 81 and 73 per cent.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended in some parts of Korattur, Padi, Mannady, Sowcarpet, S.K.Nagar and Pantheon Road on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Distributed

Murthuzaviya Educational and Cultural Foundation of South India distributed free uniforms and gifts to 500 students undergoing education in its institutions at a meeting on Tuesday.

Small savings

The small savings collection for Chennai during 2003-04 has touched Rs. 2,000 crores. The assistant director of small savings, Chennai Corporation, announced this at a meeting organised on Wednesday for the ``small savings prize draw.'' A. Muthumariappan of Ashok Nagar won the first prize of Rs. 2 lakhs of small savings scrip for ``AG'' series.

Exhibition

Kairali, a subsidiary of the Handicrafts Development Corporation of Kerala, has organised a exhibition-cum-sale of craft products at the C.P. Art Centre on Eldams Road. The exhibition will go on till April 18 and will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Workshop

Art of Living will conduct a workshop on ``Sudarshan Kriya'' from April 13. A introductory talk on the breathing technique and its advantages will be held at Bala Mandir School at Gandhi Nagar on April 11 at 5 p.m.

Blood donated

More than 70 persons of Voltas Limited and Xansa India donated blood at camps organised by Jeevan Blood Bank last week. Those who wish to organise such camps can call the organisation at 2833 1200 or 2833 0300.

Awarded

N. Kathiresan and C. Raghupathi, officials in the National Cadet Corps Directorate (Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands), were given the ``Deputy Director General NCC Commendation Certificates'' for their services to the organisation at a function today. Commodore Pritpal Singh, Deputy Director General of NCC, Chennai, distributed the certificates to them.

Honoured

Sixty Railway Police Force officers, jawans and ministerial staff were given cash rewards and certificates at a function today to mark the RPF Railway Week celebration. K.S. Balasubramanian, Inspector-General of the RPF, honoured them.
