HYDERABAD, APRIL 8. A gang of thieves took away Rs. 830 from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited commercial centre at Tolichowki after killing a private security guard, Asghar Ali (50), by smashing his head with iron rods in the early hours of Thursday under Golconda police station area. The police suspect that at least three persons were involved in the murder for gain. Asghar's body was found in a pool of blood. The Asifnagar Assistant Commissioner of Police, V. Mahender Reddy, said the scene of offence suggested that offenders entered the BSNL centre after attacking the guard. Asghar had no firearm. "As he had only a stick, the attackers could have easily overpowered and killed him," the ACP said. A dog squad was pressed into service. The assailants broke open the almirah and table drawers and ransacked the entire premises. On an average, an amount of Rs. 2 lakhs to Rs. 3 lakhs would be deposited in the commercial centre daily. The BSNL staff deposit the cash in a local bank by 4 p.m. the same day. While three security guards were on duty during the day, one was deployed during night. An ex-serviceman, Asghar was a resident of Hakeempet. He was working with Investigation Security Services India Private Limited and deployed at the BSNL centre for the last one year.
Row between media men and DCP
A row erupted at the scene of offence between electronic media personnel and the West Zone DCP, N. Sanjay, with the former accusing the police of manhandling them while taking visuals. A reporter of a regional news channel charged that the Asifnagar ACP slapped him while he was talking with Mr. Sanjay who condemned the allegations. Subsequently, the mediapersons staged a demonstration at the Police Commissionerate office demanding action against the cops responsible for the alleged attack. The Police Commissioner, R.P. Singh, ordered an inquiry into the incident by the Joint Commissioner of Police (security), Eshwar Reddy.
