Bring Quattrocchi to book: Karat

NEW DELHI, APRIL 9. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) politburo member, Prakash Karat, today said that much of the material published in newspapers on Thursday on the Bofors issue was already available with the Central Bureau of Investigation and demanded that the Government and the CBI take steps to bring the Italian businessman, Ottavio Quattrocchi, to book.

"Since 1988 when the scam broke out, we have been holding the position that the guilty should be punished ... [the accused] Hindujas are facing trial, Win Chaddha is no more and the only person not available is Quattrocchi. The CBI and the Government should take steps to apprehend him and bring him to trial," he said.

Asked if the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, should be interrogated by the CBI, Mr. Karat said: "Ask this question to the CBI. They have done everything in this case so far."
