Rs. 200-crore growth plan promised for Palakkad

By Our Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD, APRIL 10. The BJP candidate for the Palakkad Lok Sabha constituency, C. Udayabhaskar, has said that the choice before the electorates here is whether they want an investment of Rs. 2 crores from the MPs local area development fund or an annual investment of Rs. 200 crores which he is promising.

Addressing a press conference at the Media Centre here today, Mr. Udayabhaskar, a Nagpur-based industrialist, said the district lacked development in every field. The MPs elected on the LDF and UDF tickets earlier could not bring any major investment to the district.

He promised that if he is elected, he would put pressure on the Centre to make ``heavy investments in infrastructure development, health and tourism'' in the district. On the health and tourism sector alone, 70,000 employment opportunities could be generated in the next couple of years, he said.

Mr. Udayabhaskar said he would try to get an IIT and a medical institution like the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) and also take steps to develop eco-tourism in Parambikulam, Silent Valley and Nelliampathy Hills.

He said the district is facing acute drinking water shortage because the MPs elected from here did not take steps to get Central and State Government's clearance for the projects like Kuriyarkutty-Karapara.

``They did not even release funds to dig some bore-wells from the MPs local area development fund,'' he alleged.
