229 works to ease water scarcity in Bidar

BIDAR, APRIL 10. As many as 229 works to mitigate the drinking water scarcity have been taken up in Bidar at a cost of Rs. 4.15 crore, according to the Deputy Commissioner, T.K. Anil Kumar, on Friday.

Speaking at a review meeting presided over by the nodal secretary in-charge of the district, R. Suresh, Mr. Kumar said 124 of these works had been completed.

He said the district administration had completed 61 of the 94 works taken up under the employment generation programme at a cost of Rs. 1.87 crore. A Rs. 1.75 crore project had been started for desilting nine tanks. Arrangements for the supply of fodder had been made for 4,27,000 head of cattle till July 2004. Nearly 70 tonnes of fodder had been cultivated in Hallikhed and Halladakeri. Farmers had been given mini-kits valued at Rs. 4.25 lakh and medicines worth Rs. 11.75 lakh.

Mr. Suresh asked officials to complete all projects on time. He also told them to use the Rs. 1-crore grant for the district for building check dams.

The Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat, Naveen Raj Singh, gave details of watershed development works taken up in the district.
