Embargo on adoptions by foreigners sought

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, APRIL 10. The Gramya Resource Centre for Women has demanded that the State and Central Governments place an embargo on adoption of Indian children by foreign nationals at the national and as well as State-level.

The Centre also demanded that the Tender Loving Care Home (TLCH) should not be allowed to function by default and to prevent the Home from processing foreign adoptions.

The Centre, in a press note, further wanted the State Government to shift all the babies at the TLCH to Shishu Vihar and Government custody apart from designating a senior officer in the Social Welfare Department with the responsibility of monitoring and ensuring that all children were given to Indian parents only.

The trials against criminals trafficking in girl babies should also be speeded up, the centre demanded.
