One killed in road accident

BANGALORE, APRIL 10. A 32-year-old man was killed on the spot when a lorry hit the motorcycle he was driving near Rajarajeshwari cinema on Airport Road around 3.45 a.m. on Saturday.

The police gave the name of the man as Saravana of Chinnappa Garden. The Airport police have arrested the lorry driver and seized the vehicle.

Five arrested

The City Crime Branch (CCB) officers on Friday raided a shop on Subedar Chatram Road in Upparpet police station limits and arrested five persons allegedly involved in gambling.

The police seized Rs. 2,555 in cash and nine video games machines from the shop. The names of the arrested persons were given as Raju (29), Ramakrishna (52), Saravana (25), M.M. Raj (25), and Sunder Pandyan (41).

Man ends life

A quarrel over a car reportedly drove a 28-year-old man to hang himself at his residence here on Friday.

The police said Raju hanged himself at his residence at Rajagopalanagar in Peenya 2nd stage, Ramanna Extension. They said he had fought with his wife over her car. Raju wanted her to transfer the ownership of the vehicle to him as he needed Rs. 20,000 urgently and when she refused he hanged himself, the police said.

A case has been registered.

Ornaments recovered

The Peenya police arrested Satish alias Shivalinga (27) of Nagamangala taluk in Mandya district and recovered from him gold ornaments worth Rs. 8 lakh and five cases of liquor.

The police said Satish, who had worked as a car driver for two businessmen, had stolen cash and gold ornaments they had kept in their cars. Later, he joined a transport company as a lorry driver and made away with liquor cases worth Rs. 8 lakh. He had sold some of them to a liquor shop in Hassan district, the police said.
