BANGALORE, APRIL 10. The Jnana Bharathi police on Friday arrested Chikkanna (55) of 2nd Stage, Nagarabavi, who had allegedly cheated hundreds of slum-dwellers by promising them sites. The police said Chikkanna had reportedly taken Rs. 500 to Rs. 10,000 from people living in slums in and around Nagarabavi promising them sites. On Friday, he showed them 40 acres of land belonging to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) at 2nd Stage, Nagarabavi and told them that they had been allotted sites there. Chikkanna reportedly told the people that he would get them title deeds of the sites after the elections were over, the police said. When hundreds of people were trying to put up makeshift tents at the BDA land on Friday, the staff of the BDA Task Force cleared them. After learning that Chikkanna had allegedly cheated the slum-dwellers, the police arrested him.
