Judicial probe sought into jail violence

KOZHIKODE,
APRIL 11.
The Janata Dal (Secular) State president, M.P. Veerendrakumar, has demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident in which a CPI(M) worker, K.P. Raveendran, was killed in a clash at the Kannur Central Jail recently.
In a statement here, Mr. Veerendrakumar said that those who had killed Raveendran would not have acquired deadly weapons without the knowledge of the jail authorities. Hence, a departmental inquiry will not bring out the truth.
He said that the incident showed that the State Government had failed in providing security even inside a jail.
Raveendran was killed as a result of a "planned attack'' by a section of jail inmates, he said
