Crisis in tea estates worsening: CITU
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM,
APRIL 11.
The CITU State general secretary, P. K. Gurudasan, has warned the Government of serious consequences if it persisted with its apathy towards the three-year-long crisis in tea plantations in the State.
In a statement here today, Mr. Gurudasan said the situation in tea estates in the State was worsening with each passing day resulting in suicide by farmers and plantation workers.
Although the Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, had visited the estates as part of his tour of drought-hit areas in the State and promised short-term and long-term measures to tackle the crisis in the plantations, no action had been taken so far, he said.
