Easter celebrated

KOCHI, APRIL 11. Rejoicing in the memory of Resurrection of the Lord from among the dead 20 centuries ago, Keralites today joined Christians around the globe in celebrating Easter.

Churches in Kochi, which is home to the headquarters of two Catholic Rites, were crowded from late last night with the faithful taking part in the special prayer services.

The Easter service at St. Mary's Basilica began at 11.45 p.m. on Saturday. The Major Archbishop of Syro-Malabar Church, Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, was the main celebrant at the service.

The Cardinal also officiated the holy mass. A procession, with the participants carrying burning candles, was taken out.
