Motivated allegations, says Congress
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
APRIL 11.
Describing the latest revelations in The Asian Age as ``nothing new'' and ``motivated,'' the Congress today said the Outlook magazine carried an interview with the Swedish investigator, Sten Lindstrom, in April 1998 wherein the same allegations had been levelled.
The party spokesperson, Kapil Sibal, told the press today that The Asian Age had been used as a ``political ploy'' to carry the old Bofors story to benefit a particular political party. He claimed that Mr. Lindstrom had been in touch with the Defence Minister, George Fernandes.
Mr. Sibal said the Delhi High Court had already pronounced its order in the Bofors case and it appeared as if the BJP leadership, including the Prime Minister, did not have any faith in the judicial system.
The BJP spokesman, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, claimed that the Congress was hiding behind the curtain instead of answering queries on the Bofors payoffs case.
