HYDERABAD, APRIL 11. A two-day orientation workshop on conservation of heritage buildings held at the Osmania University College for Women at Koti concluded on Sunday. The workshop, aimed at collection of samples for the preliminary condition assessment of the buildings, ended with chalking out of a schedule for testing and analysis of the samples for a follow-up. Part of the restoration project of the buildings of the Women's College, the workshop was designed and conducted by the former director of the Archaeological Survey of India, B.N. Tandon. Faculty and students of the Osmania University departments of history, archaeology, applied geo-chemistry, analytical chemistry, microbiology, engineering and geography attended the workshop. The restoration and upgradation of the buildings is being taken up with support from the World Monuments Fund, New York. Phase I of the project involves intensive study, monitoring and testing of materials composition, strength and decay in different parts of the building, according to a press note.
