PATNA, APRIL 12. Prominent cricketer-turned BJP leader Mohinder Amarnath today compared his party with the universe which had varied planets and galaxy of stars and described Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as `sun' which illuminates the entire universe. `BJP is like universe dotting different planets and stars. Vajpayee is like sun which illuminates the entire planetary system,' he told reporters here. Asked about Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, Amarnath, who played an important role in victory of Indian cricket team in Prudential Cup in 1983, said he is like `moon.' Besides, the two, BJP had a galaxy of stars drawn from different walks of lives, Amarnath said. He was here to campaign for Union Minister and BJP candidate for Patna parliamentary seat C P Thakur. The former cricketer denied his party was trying to `cash in on' the ongoing Indo-Pak cricket series saying `only those parties who are not doing well with the people need to cash in on such issues. BJP has no such need.' He said the restoration of cricketing ties with Pakistan would further improve the relations between people of the two countries. Amarnath said he had joined BJP with cinestar-turned politician Shatrughan Sinha in 1994 but was not active in the party because of `certain other engagements.' Stating that he is still more a player than a politician, Amarnath said he was highly influenced by Vajpayee and counted all the good works done by NDA Government under Vajpayee for the country.
