Riots panel seeks list of policemen to be examined

AHMEDABAD, APRIL 12. The two-member panel probing the post-Godhra communal riots and its aftermath today asked the victims to submit by April 30 a list of all the policemen they wanted the commission to examine.

Rejecting the arguments of the government counsel that policemen who filed affidavits could not be examined by advocates appearing on behalf of the victims, the commission directed the victims' advocate to prepare and submit by April 30 a fresh list of all policemen he wanted to examine, including the former Commissioner, P.C. Pande.

Earlier, the commission comprising Justice (retd.) G.T. Nanavati and Justice (retd.) K.G. Shah asked counsel to cite specific reasons to examine them. The commission fixed May 20, 21 and 22 for the examination.
