By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, APRIL 12. The Bharatiya Janata Party president, Venkaiah Naidu, has expressed `shock' at the stampede at the birthday celebration of the senior party leader, Lalji Tandon, in Lucknow today.

Speaking over telephone from Medak district — he is campaigning in Andhra Pradesh — Mr. Naidu offered his `heartfelt condolences' to the members of families of those killed in the incident.

Mr. Naidu said that he had asked his party's Uttar Pradesh leaders to gather the facts of the case and report to him.
