Leaders offer New Year greetings

CHENNAI, APRil 12. Leaders of various political parties have conveyed greetings to the people on the occasion of Tamil New Year Day.

The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, wished the people all prosperity and happiness in the New Year.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president, M. Karunanidhi, said last Tamil year saw ``repressive measures'' and loss of employment for people. He expressed the hope that the New Year would create an atmosphere in which the people would regain their lost rights, and get new concessions.

The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief, G.K.Vasan, wished that the New Year should bring cheer to farmers and usher in prosperity and there should be plenty of rain to solve the drinking water problem.

The Congress Jananayaga Peravai leader, P.Chidambaram, wished that the New Year should usher in quality education and useful employment to the younger generation.

The youth should dedicate themselves to the uplift of Tamils and the State. They should not succumb to illusions and bad habits, said the PMK leader, S. Ramadoss.

The MDMK leader, Vaiko, the CPI (M) State secretary, N.Varadarajan, the CPI State secretary, R.Nallakannu, have greeted the people on the occasion of New Year.

``Let us all whole-heartedly try to meet the aspirations of thousands of men and women for a better world, for a world of universal brotherhood and fraternal solidarity among people belonging to all communities,'' said the Prince of Arcot, Mohammed Abdul Ali.

``May the New Year bring back the blessings of nature in the form of good monsoon, bountiful harvest to farmers and usher in prosperity, good health and success to the people,'' wished the Chief Hereditary Trustee and Muthavalli, Dargah Hazrath Syed Moosa Sha Khaderi, Syed Moinuddin.
