BJP campaign gets a touch of Mahabharat

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, APRIL 13. The background score for the Mahabharat tele-serial, produced by B.R. Chopra, is to be the BJP's trump card in electioneering.

The party has woven its achievements right from the Pokhran nuclear blast into the beat of the song.

The song was played for the benefit of presspersons here on Tuesday by the BJP president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, here today.

While retaining the chorus of the song "Ath Shri Mahabharath..., katha hai ye swarth ki, purusharth ki, parmarth ki....", the song lists all the major achievements of the Government and its handling of the law and order situation.

Mr. Naidu said the lyrics were written by him and it was sung by S.P. Balasubrahmaniam and another singer. Asked whether the song was brought to the notice of the Election Commission as its contents were inflammatory, in nature, Mr. Naidu brushed aside the question saying, "If everything in the country is to be taken to EC, nothing will work."
