Party chiefs nurse their own constituencies

By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR, APRIL 13. With district party presidents of all major political parties themselves contesting from various Assembly segments, there is literally no leader heading the campaign of these parties.

The District Congress Committee (DCC) president, D. Sridhar, who is seeking re-election from the Manthani Assembly segment, has restricted his activity to his own segment where he is locked in a tight contest with the TDP candidate, S. Satyanarayana. He is reportedly not visiting other segments where the Congress candidates are in the fray and had only participated in the former CLP leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's `Jaitra yatra' in the Peddapalli and Manthani segments. Similarly, The Bharatiya Janata Party district president, P. Sugunakar Rao, who is contesting from the Indurthi segment, is also busy in his own campaign programmes in the segment. Mr. Sugunakar Rao, who is new to the segment, is facing trouble in establishing contact with local leaders. He is a worried man these days as the TDP rebel candidate, Devishetti Srinivas, is also in the fray.

Mr. Sugunakar Rao is contesting for the first time from the Indurthi segment which falls under the Peddapalli parliamentary constituency. His absence from canvassing in Karimnagar town has become a cause of concern for the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, who is contesting from the Karimnagar parliamentary segment. The Communist Party of India, which is contesting only the Indurthi Assembly seat in the district, has fielded its district secretary, Chada Venkat Reddy. He is up against formidable rivals -- the Congress rebel, Bomma Venkateshwar, and the TRS candidate, D. Chinamallaiah.
