`India is not shining'

By Our Special Correspondent

SRINAGAR, APRIL 13. Educationist and a former chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Prof. Yashpal, had a dig at "India shining" slogan saying that it was not true.

``Does globalisation mean everybody look the same and should do the same?'' he asked and questioned the claim that India was shining. "Most of the hoardings we have are about foreign companies — where is India shining?" he asked adding that "shine comes really from somewhere and we [are] the consumers".

"We have a right to create as well and not only to be consumers," Prof. Yashpal said. "Who only consumes is a sinner and who allows them to be consumer only is a big sinner." Globalisation should be subsumed in a deeper global consciousness. ``With globalisation you might have become neighbours but not neighbourly,'' he added.
