Nadendla attacks Naidu for `misuse' of power

By Our Correspondent

KAKINADA, APRIL 13. The former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Nadendla Bhaskara Rao, on Tuesday came down heavily on the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, alleging that he was misusing the electronic media and wondered as to why the Election Commission was silent on this issue of gross power misuse.

Speaking to newsmen here, he said that Mr. Naidu had created a record of sorts in using helicopter. While the State budget was Rs. 30,000 crores, Telugu Desam Government took loans from World Bank and other agencies to the tune of Rs. 59,000 crores and imposed taxes worth Rs. 59,000 crores, both of which are unprecedented, he alleged.

Ridiculing Mr. Naidu for his accusation that Congress leadership sold ticket, Mr. Bhaskara Rao said that the Chief Minister himself resorted to such "unholy practices" while his father-in-law, N. T. Rama Rao was in power. "People have not forgotten how tickets were sold by Mr. Naidu taking advantage of his relationship with N.T.R," he alleged.

On the BJP charge that the Congress was confused over electoral alliances, Mr. Bhaskara Rao said his party was clear that the alliance was meant for preventing the Opposition votes from splitting. But it was the BJP, which was in two minds, adopting dual policy on Telangana issue. While the State party says it is committed to Telengana State, the Central leadership is against it, he said. Mr. Bhaskara Rao said that DWCRA scheme and the Rs. 1.60-a-kilo-rice scheme were launched by the Congress, but Mr. Naidu claimed credit for both. It is bound to boomerang in the hustings, Mr. Bhaskara Rao added.
