It will take a few months, says advocate

By Our Special Correspondent

MUMBAI, APRIL 13. It will still take several months before the retrial of the Best Bakery case can begin in Maharashtra, advocate Mihir Desai, who had drafted the petition filed before the Supreme Court, told The Hindu.

Welcoming the Supreme Court judgment that ordered that the case, pertaining to the killing of 14 persons in Vadodara during the communal violence of March 2002, be shifted to Maharashtra, Mr. Desai said he expected the procedure to take a few months.

Mr. Desai said that the Supreme Court had asked the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court to assign the matter to a competent court. In all likelihood, this would be a sessions court, possibly in Mumbai.
