PERAMBALUR, APRIL 13 . The Collector of Perambalur district, S. Natarajan, today urged the polling officials to ensure free and fair conduct of Lok Sabha elections through strict enforcement of election rules. Addressing polling officials of the Uppliyapuram Assembly segment in Tiruchi district, which falls under the Perambalur (reserved) Lok Sabha segment, the Collector said the polling officials should strictly adhere to the election norms without fear or favour. He also explained the various guidelines of the Election Commission for ensuring fair conduct of polls. The Collector urged the officials to conduct special programmes to create an awareness of the advantages of the Electronic Voting Machines among the voters, especially tribals. He said seven booths would be set up, one each at Pachamalai at Top Sengattupatti, Kinathur, Puthur, Nachipatti, Chinna Iruppur, Seppiliyanpatti and Poonatchi, to facilitate a total of 6,214 voters to exercise their franchise. The largest number of 1,511 voters would exercise their votes at the booth in Chinna Iruppur, 1,176 in Top Sengattupatti, 1,140 voters in Kinathur, 985 in Seppiliyanpatti, 599 in Puthur, 523 in Nachipatti and 280 in Poonatchi. The Deputy Collector (Stamps), Srinivasan, who is the Assistant Returning Officer for the Uppliyapuram Assembly segment, was among those who accompanied the Collector.
