Lawyers' dharna against transfer of cases

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, APRIL 13. The Delhi Bar Association (DBA) today organised a demonstration outside the Delhi High Court against what it called transfer of all pending cases related to cheque bouncing to the Karkardooma courts as well as transfer of certain courts of the Rohini district to the half-built court building there.

Hundreds of lawyers of the DBA, the New Delhi Bar Association (NDBA) and the Delhi High Court Bar Association squatted on the pavement outside the northern gate of the High Court raising slogans against the decisions.

However, the Shahdara Bar Association of Karkardooma courts did not participate in the sit-in saying that the agitation was against the interests of thousands of litigants and against the policy of the Delhi Government of division of district courts into nine district courts on the pattern of as many revenue districts.

Later, a delegation of members of the three Bar Associations supporting the agitation called on the Administrative Committee of the High Court and submitted a memorandum to its chief, Justice B.C. Patel.

However, the talks remained inclusive, Rajeev Khosla, president of the DBA said, adding that another round of meeting was likely next week.
