MOTHKUR (NALGONDA DT.), APRIL 13. The Congress lacked in specific issues to propagate and as well as a leader to project as its Prime Ministerial candidate in the run up to the elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party national president, Venkaiah Naidu, has said. Addressing an election meeting here on Tuesday, he said that the Congress did not have a leader of Prime Minister stature. The partners of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) were all set to romp home because of the overall development achieved by the Vajpayee Government at the Centre. The BJP chief termed the Congress-TRS alliance as an `unholy' one and said that the Communists have almost disappeared from the political scene. Scoffing at the TRS agenda of carving out a separate Telangana State, he said that `secessionists' cannot do any good for the people. Lashing out at the Congress for its free power promise to the electorate in the State, he said that "free power means no power". The Congress was giving this assurance to grab power by deceiving people, he alleged. Film actress, Vijayashanti, said that the Congress was in a state of frustration while the BJP-TDP combine was in a jubilant mood. She sought to know as to what Sonia Gandhi, the AICC president, knew about Bhaaratiayata. Referring to the Telangana issue, she said that the region was deprived of development and employment opportunities. "Beware of politicians who are out to capitalise the fighting spirit of Telangana people,'' she warned. The TDP candidate for the Miryalaguda parliamentary constituency, Vangala Swami Goud, the TDP and BJP district presidents, Sudarshan and Pavan Kumar respectively, were also present. At another public meeting at Choutuppal, Mr. Naidu referred to the naxal violence in the State and said that it was not possible to change the society by using bullets. "You may eliminate a person with bullets, but you can transform the society through the ballot,'' he said.
