COIMBATORE, APRIL 13. The Textiles Committee will organise an exposure visit to China for owners of the processing units in Bhavani and Erode in August. Sources in the committee told The Hindu that so far about 20 units had expressed willingness to participate. The visit would help them learn the methods of effluent treatment and processing techniques followed in China. Further, the committee was also considering setting up of a processing park for these units. It could be initiated jointly with the processing unit associations in Bhavani and Erode. An awareness programme in this regard was recently organised in Erode. The committee, under its cluster development programme for the home textiles units in Chennimalai/Bhavani areas, had earlier organised exposure visits to Panipet for the weavers in these areas. The objective was to help them learn production of items like hand-tufted carpets. As part of the cluster development programme, a consortium of the home textile manufacturers would be formed shortly. This would consist of six to eight members initially. The aim was to help these manufacturers start direct exports.
