Three held for assaulting woman

CHENNAI, APRIL 13. Saidapet police today arrested three men who allegedly attacked a housewife and robbed jewels at her home in West CIT Nagar last week.

Police gave the names of the men as Joseph, Ansari and Abdul Razzak. One of the assailants, Jeba Sekar, was nabbed by residents and handed over to police when he tried to flee after the incident. Police said they also recovered the jewels the men had snatched from the woman.

Killed in road accidents

A motorcyclist died after he was knocked down by a Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus at Balaji Nagar near Pallikaranai on Monday. Chengai East police said that Chinnaiyan, the victim, was going to his home in Kovilambakkam on a motorcycle, when the bus hit him. He was taken to the Government Royapettah Hospital, where he died. At the Ambattur Industrial Estate, a youth was killed when he was knocked down by a lorry on Monday. Police said that Santhosh, 19, was employed as a salesman in a company in the estate and was returning to his home in Chinmaya Nagar in Koyambedu on a cycle.

On Third Main Road, the cycle was knocked down by a lorry. He was seriously injured and was taken to a private hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
