Preparation on for peaceful polls

By Our Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM, APRIL 13. Elaborate arrangements have been made for peaceful conduct of the Assembly and Lok Sabha poll in the city limits on April 20, said Commissioner of Police, B. Prasada Rao.

Speaking to newspersons here today, he said, "The city extends over Visakha -I, Visakha-II and Pendurthi Assembly constituencies. Of the 945 polling booths, 35 are considered sensitive and 74 highly sensitive. Heavy bandobust would be made at highly sensitive booths.''

To avoid untoward incidents, 35 striking and 12 special striking forces have been formed. Check-posts would be set up at 12 places to prevent outsiders entering the city limits. Prohibitory orders would be issued under Sec. 144 CrPC at the polling booths 48 hours before the poll.

He appealed to the candidates to cooperate with the police to ensure peaceful polling. Political parties would not be allowed to open camps within 200 metres of polling booths for issue of voter slips. They should not display party flags or symbols either within that distance. Gunmen would not be allowed within 100 metres of the booths.

Voters would not be allowed to enter the booth with weapons, ink bottles, match boxes, water, etc. Police would prevent distribution of money or liquor before the polling day. Any complaints in this regard can be made at the police control room (phone numbers 100, 1090, 2565454) or police election centre (telephone 2704465).
