THIRUVANANTHAPURAAM, APRIL 13. With the State capital city and district receiving isolated but heavy summer showers during the past few days, the mercury levels have dropped significantly. The city received 19.8 mm of rain till this evening, while the airport recorded 1.5 mm. Rain was fairly widespread at Nedumangad and Varkala, where 2 cm each of rain was recorded. The temperature, which seemed to be two to three degrees above normal after the beginning of the summer, had been oscillating after April 1, the director of Thiruvananthapuram Meteorological Centre, D. Ramachandran, told The Hindu . The maximum temperature recorded in the district today was 33.5 degree Celsius, the minimum being 24 degree Celsius. More isolated rains and thundershowers could be expected in the coming days, Mr. Ramachandran, said.
