Chain snatchers held

The Saidabad police on Tuesday arrested two chain snatchers— A. Kiran and S. Bharati--both residents of Mangar Basti, Afzalsagar and recovered five tola gold ornaments at their instance.

The accused, involved in series of offences, were previously arrested by Osmania University, Bahadurpura and Mahankali police, according to a press release.

Burglar arrested

In a separate case, a notorious burglar and ex-convict, Mohammed Suleman of Rajendranagar, was arrested and nine tolas out of the 18 tolas of stolen gold ornaments was recovered from him.

He confessed to having committed four burglaries along with his associate, Sreenu, in Amberpet police limits in the month of January and February 2004.

During interrogation, he led the police to Begum Bazar and Gulzar Houz where he had disposed the stolen property which further led to recovery of 30 tola gold ornaments

Suleman was previously arrested by Amberpet, Uppal, Bhuvanagiri and Warangal police for similar offences, according to a press release.

Businessman robbed

A Vijayawada-based businessman, Shiva Nageswara Rao, lost Rs. 1.19 lakhs in cash, a mobile and some documents when thieves took away a hand bag from his rented house at Adarshnagar in the early hours of Tuesday. Rao, along with his friend, Sheshagiri Rao, arrived in the city after Monday midnight. They kept the doors of the house open due to the hot weather. Around 5 a.m., Sheshagiri Rao noticed that the property was missing. A complaint was lodged with the Saifabad police.
