Congress candidate for Moti Nagar

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, APRIL 13. Sri Ram Maggo will be the Congress candidate for the Moti Nagar Assembly by-election to be held on May 10. He will take on Subhash Sachdeva of the Bharatiya Janata Party in an interesting contest. The seat had fallen vacant following resignation by the senior BJP leader, Madan Lal Khurana, after his elevation as Governor of Rajashtan.

Mr. Maggo had emerged as the consensus candidate between the various factions of the Delhi Congress and the declaration of his name was a mere formality.

However, the Congress has still kept under wraps the names of its candidates for the three Lok Sabha seats of Outer Delhi, East Delhi and Chandni Chowk. A decision on this is expected over the next two days. Mr. Maggo's daughter-in-law, Sumiti Maggo, is the Congress Councillor from Kirti Nagar. Commenting on his nomination as the party candidate, Mr. Maggo said he would work hard to repay the faith reposed by the party in him and thanked the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, and the Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit. Stating that he had already launched himself into the election mode, Mr. Maggo said that he would raise the issue of continued exploitation of the people by the BJP leaders during the past decade.
