EC guidelines on TV ads to come into force tonight

HYDERABAD, APRIL 14. TV ads issued by political parties and candidates as part of election campaign and telecast by different channels may have "to be played out" from the midnight of April 15 as the new guidelines framed by the Election Commission at the instance of the Supreme Court will come into force from the next day.

The Chief Electoral Officer, M. Narayana Rao, told The Hindu here tonight that district collectors, had been appointed as the competent authority to issue certificates/clearances to every television ad. Every advertisement would have to undergo the process from April 16.
